It was a good start to the school year.Map results will be going home over the next month.The curriculum nights were announced.We have the health fair coming soon on Oct. 3rd.The McTeacher night is October 7th. He did clarify the copying guidelines for the office and that a 3 day lead time is needed. (I may have missed a few announcements because I was making copies)
Officer Reports
President’s Report:Angela Gonzalez
The state-wide PTA conference is in the middle of October and she invites anyone who would like to attend to come along to get great ideas.The directory should be done in the next few weeks.The fundraiser kickoff is this week and we really encourage families to participate since this is our primary fundraiser for PTA.We need to form a special projects committee and we have $4350 to spend on a special project.Nov 14th is the date for the Kindergarten fundraiser at Flip Zone.Discussion took place to consider skating versus Flip Zone.
1st Vice President Report:Angel Gregory
Red Ribbon Week is coming up and we are considering using red rubber bracelets versus the pins.LSNorth will host their safe Halloween night and it will be at Campbell.The newsletter will now contain a PTA Volunteer and Teacher of the Week.We discussed the Let’s Fight Flu and Health week and host a possible Flu fundraiser.More research will take place on this idea.
Treasurer’s Report:Theresa Brumfield
Theresa followed up on the teacher reimbursement form process and solicited feedback.
Membership Report:Tilda Londre
We are currently at 123 memberships.We discussed ideas for the popcorn and paper plane party.
Committee Reports
Welcoming:Lorie Crone stated the event at the Meet The Teacher night was a success.They are also doing a Welcoming Fundraiser at Paradise Park on 10/27th.
Cultural Arts:Ms. James discussed some of the ideas to promote some hands on learning such as the Hands On Traveling museum, Science Show, and the Traveling Endangered Species Show.KC Wolf is also scheduled for an assembly at Westview.
Library:Ms. Smith discussed the library remodeling and the new family reading program.She also proposed that the PTA purchase additional copies of the Corduroy books so we can have a special event using the books for all the students.The books then would be donated into the classroom libraries.The motion was proposed, seconded, and approved to purchase the Corduroy books for Mrs. Smith.
Watch DOGS:Sasha Lewis reminded us of the upcoming pizza and info night on October 1st.
Carnival:Karrie Andes did state that she will be leading the Carnival again this year and the date set is 2/9th.
Picnic:Kathryn Rhoads did report that the Fall Picnic is coming together nicely.We are still in need of volunteers to help that evening for set up and clean up.A sign up list was passed around and a teacher volunteer sign up list posted in the teacher’s lounge.
Room Parents:Lorie Crone did announce the Fall party planning meeting and she is going to make sure that all classrooms have a head room parent.
